Honestly it's a rare occurrence, but hacking has become the biggest criminal nuisance in the computers brief history in my opinion. People are lazy and don't get the simple free security that they should have.

If you don't have an anti virus yet and can't decide which one to buy you can enter their online sites and try the services for free, then decide what to use. But you have got to get ine or you will be sorry.

Most of the companies that produce antivirus have online free tools for scanning computers for viruses. Just check any of those sites and you can find these no problem. I have used them and they sem to work well

The role of an anti virus program is to: 1) Detect the presence of viruses in a computer 2) To disinfect the files or delete the ones that can't be disinfected and 3) Prevent the contamination of the computer. Use them and you will be fine
